What Cursor is
Cursor is a developer workspace that combines repository-aware assistance with code editing, review and supported desktop, CLI and cloud agents. The repository provides context about the project, while the agent can work through a task involving several files or development steps.
Its appeal is keeping code understanding and changes close to the developer's everyday workflow. That does not make it one fixed model or one execution environment. The chosen feature and surface determine where actions occur and how the model service is used.
Read the official documentationHow it fits into a workflow
An illustrative change begins with a precise behavior to implement and the relevant project constraints. Use the assistant to understand the affected code, review the planned scope, then inspect the diff and run a meaningful test. Code review is still necessary even when the explanation sounds confident or the change compiles.
Examples described as illustrative or proposed trials are editorial suggestions. Documented real builds, when available, are linked separately below.
Requirements, cost and limitations
Cursor is a proprietary product. The current pricing page describes a weekly usage pool shared across Cursor and Grok; third-party models in Cursor are billed separately. Plus supports Grok models, while cloud agents and code reviews begin at Premium in the current plan table. Check your account’s plan and usage settings before choosing a workflow. A local editor window does not establish local inference or guarantee that repository context stays on the computer.
Check current access and pricingWhen to choose it and what to compare
Consider Cursor when an integrated workspace is more useful than adding a separate terminal tool. GitHub Copilot may fit a GitHub-centered development process, while Aider or OpenCode offer different workflows and provider choices. Compare the exact editing and review experience, not just a list of available models.
