What Krita AI Diffusion / Interstice is
Krita AI Diffusion adds generative-image features to Krita, a painting application with layers and selections. It lets an artist combine manual work with generated regions rather than handing the entire composition to a model. Interstice provides an optional hosted route alongside local generation.
The practical benefit is keeping selection, painting and composition in the same workspace. A prompt describes the desired change, but layer order and masks control which original pixels remain visible. That distinction matters when a product label or another precise detail must be retained.

For an illustrative background variation, keep a protected copy of the original product on its own layer, select the background and generate a replacement underneath. Review the edges, lighting and contact shadow before exporting. The related workshop explains that controlled technique with a documented baseline, rather than claiming it was a real customer campaign.
Examples described as illustrative or proposed trials are editorial suggestions. Documented real builds, when available, are linked separately below.
Requirements, cost and limitations
You need a compatible Krita/plugin version and suitable local hardware and model files, or access to the cloud service. The plugin uses GPL-3.0 terms; model licenses and hosted usage terms are separate. Model architecture, controls and workload must be compatible.
Check current access and pricingWhen to choose it and what to compare
Choose this when painting and layer control are central to your work. A solid color layer may be more reliable than generation for a plain background. Use ComfyUI when inspecting the broader processing graph matters more than staying inside a painting interface.
