What LangGraph is
LangGraph is a framework for developers building stateful agent workflows. A framework supplies building blocks rather than a finished assistant. Stateful means the workflow can retain information about its progress, so later steps can use what earlier steps discovered or completed.
It can combine fixed program logic, model calls, tools and human review. That is useful when an application needs a controlled sequence with checkpoints or long-running work. The developer is still responsible for deciding which parts should be deterministic and which decisions should be delegated to a model.
Read the official documentationHow it fits into a workflow
An illustrative document workflow first checks an input, then asks a model to extract fields, then waits for a person to approve uncertain values before saving them. The graph describes how the steps connect and what state passes between them. A failure or an approval request should be a designed state, not an unexpected conversational detour.
Examples described as illustrative or proposed trials are editorial suggestions. Documented real builds, when available, are linked separately below.
Requirements, cost and limitations
Expect programming and application-operation work, including persistence, credentials and deployment choices. Low-level control adds design work compared with a prebuilt agent loop. The framework's software terms do not cover every connected model or hosted service. Review the current documentation for the exact durable-execution and review behavior your application needs.
When to choose it and what to compare
LangGraph fits custom systems where workflow control is a real requirement. n8n offers a visual automation approach, while a hosted personal agent offers a more complete product. A simple sequence of ordinary functions may be easier when the task does not need persistent agent state.
