What Codex CLI is
Codex CLI is OpenAI's terminal coding agent. It can inspect and edit local repository files and run development tools in an interactive or scripted workflow. The CLI is not the same thing as a model: a model interprets the task while the client supplies the file, command and approval environment.
This profile describes the CLI scope rather than assuming every capability of every Codex product surface is identical. It is useful for a developer who wants to move from a written requirement to a reviewable code change, with the repository and its tests providing the concrete evidence.
Read the official documentationHow it fits into a workflow
The event-site workshop proposes a small static page with a schedule filter and explicit expected counts. The agent receives a brief, creates the files and reports its checks; a person then opens the page and tests the filter at desktop and phone widths. That is a practice recipe, not a site generated or tested by this directory's workshop.
Examples described as illustrative or proposed trials are editorial suggestions. Documented real builds, when available, are linked separately below.
Requirements, cost and limitations
Use supported CLI installation, an eligible account or configured access route, Git and the project's development tools. Subscription allowances and API-key billing are different arrangements. Local CLI execution does not imply local inference; check the selected model and authentication route. Keep Git checkpoints and appropriate sandbox and approval settings so changes remain reviewable.
Check current access and pricingWhen to choose it and what to compare
Choose a coding agent when the work needs repository actions, not just an explanation. Compare Codex with other agents on the same change and acceptance checks. A conventional template or direct edit can be simpler for a tiny task with no need for model-driven investigation.
