What agent-browser is
agent-browser is a browser-automation command-line tool designed for agents that can run shell commands. It exposes a web page through compact accessibility snapshots and element references, giving an agent a structured way to identify controls and perform browser actions.
It is browser tooling, not a standalone personal assistant or a model. Another system supplies the goal and decides which commands to issue. A page changing its layout, a missing login or a website blocking automation can still interrupt the workflow.
Read the official documentationHow it fits into a workflow
An illustrative test uses a local page with a search box and a known result. The agent reads the current snapshot, acts on the referenced control and checks the new page state. Re-reading after navigation matters because old references may no longer identify the intended control. Accessibility snapshots do not replace inspecting the visual result.
Examples described as illustrative or proposed trials are editorial suggestions. Documented real builds, when available, are linked separately below.
Requirements, cost and limitations
You need a compatible shell-capable agent and browser environment, plus appropriate access to the pages being used. Security controls are opt-in: the default setup does not restrict navigation, actions or output. Review the current setup and license, protect credentials in browser sessions and treat page content as data rather than authority to change the agent's task.
When to choose it and what to compare
Consider agent-browser when a command-line browser tool fits the agent's existing interface. Playwright MCP exposes related browser capabilities through a different integration protocol. Prefer a suitable application API when it can perform the task more directly and reliably than navigating a visual interface.
