What Playwright MCP is
Playwright MCP connects compatible assistants to Playwright browser actions through the Model Context Protocol, or MCP. MCP is an integration format that lets an assistant discover and call tools. Here, those tools let the assistant inspect a page and interact with browser controls.
The project uses structured accessibility snapshots so that actions can be based on the page's controls and text. It does not supply the assistant's reasoning model or make every website automatable. The surrounding client still controls the task, permissions and access to the browser session.
Read the official documentationHow it fits into a workflow
A useful illustrative test opens a harmless page, reads its controls, fills a field and checks the resulting page state. The important loop is observe, act and verify—not a long sequence of guessed clicks. For development work, inspect both the visible result and any relevant errors before claiming a browser test passed.
Examples described as illustrative or proposed trials are editorial suggestions. Documented real builds, when available, are linked separately below.
Requirements, cost and limitations
Use a supported Node.js environment, a compatible MCP client and the documented browser/server setup. Existing website access and browser permissions still apply. The project is not a security boundary: isolate credentials and enforce permissions outside the server, because a logged-in browser can act with the account's privileges.
When to choose it and what to compare
Choose this when an MCP connection fits your assistant or development environment. agent-browser is a command-line alternative to investigate. Neither choice is a guarantee against website changes or failed actions; compare the integration and verification workflow you actually need.
